About Ánimo Venice
Ánimo Venice Charter High School is a charter high school located in Venice, California. It serves students living in and near the Oakwood community of Venice as well as Santa Monica, Culver City and Mar Vista. The school also attracts many students from Inglewood and South Los Angeles. The school serves families from a wide cross-section of the racial, cultural, and socioeconomic spectrum. Our charter was approved by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the school currently has students enrolled in grades 9 through 12.
Founded in 2004 by Green Dot Public Schools, Ánimo Venice Charter High School is located in one of the city’s most diverse neighborhoods. Though located on several campuses over the years, it has found a permanent home sharing a site with Broadway Elementary through California’s Proposition 39. The new, LEED-Certified building features solar panels and a gray water reclamation system. Like many Green Dot schools, Ánimo Venice serves a largely Latino population despite three quarters of the local community being ‘white’. Latino students scored an API of 779 last year, 78 points more than the state average.
