Animo Florence-Firestone was founded in 2016 with a mission of preparing all students for high school, college, leadership, and life. Building upon the success of Animo Pat Brown High School, Animo Florence-Firestone aims to continue a tradition of academic excellence and community empowerment in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of Los Angeles. It is chartered through Los Angeles Unified School District while managed by Green Dot Public Schools, a non-profit organization. Ánimo is a Spanish word meaning “vigor, mind, spirit, valor, and the courage to overcome odds.” This embodies Green Dot Public Schools’ commitment to student success through hard work.
Ánimo Florence-Firestone (AFF) opened with 100 sixth grade students in the summer of 2016. The school plans to increase enrollment and add additional grade levels until reaching a target capacity of 600 six through eighth grade students in the 2019-2020 school year.
