Meet the Leadership Team
Nate Geller is very proud to serve the students and families of the Watts and Compton communities in his third year as Principal of Animo Mae Jemison Charter Middle School. Prior to this role, Nate served as Assistant Principal of Animo Phillis Wheatley Charter Middle School for three years (also part of the Green Dot network), and spent six years in the Bay Area as a middle school math/science teacher and instructional coach. Nate grew up in Philadelphia, is a passionate supporter of Philly sports teams and loves traveling, cooking, art, playing soccer, and most of all, enjoys time with his wife, Rebecca and 9-month old son, Owen. Nate holds an M.A. in Education Leadership from the Principal Leadership Institute at University of California, Berkeley and a B.A. from Princeton University.
Angie Rodriguez is honored to begin her third year as Assistant Principal at AMJ and with Green Dot. Before working at Green Dot, Angie worked for LAUSD as a teacher, coordinator, counselor, and wellness facilitator. One of her proudest accomplishments is her work on President Barack Obama’s campaign in 2008.
Angie has 6 children, including 2 sets of twins. The oldest is 29, 27(boy/girl twins), 14, and 11(identical boy twins). Angie loves football, salsa dancing, reading, gospel music, and inappropriate hip-hop/rap! She is part of the Intercessory Prayer and Banner ministry at her church and has a passion for social justice.
Angie is originally from Oakland CA. She went to Fairfax H.S, UCLA undergrad (BA in Psychology), GO BRUINS, received her MS in School Based Family Counseling and Educational Administration from CSULA with a 4.0 GPA, and is currently attending CSULB for an EdD (5/21/19) in Educational Leadership maintaining her 4.0 GPA.
Mike Curry could not be more excited to join the team at Ánimo Mae Jemison as he starts his first year as an Assistant Principal.
Mike spent the last 4 years as a 4th, 5th, and 8th grade Special Education teacher at Camino Nuevo Kayne-Siart. Prior to that, he worked as a 4th grade General Education teacher at Forestdale Elementary in Malden, Massachusetts.
Mike grew up in Long Island, NY where he found his love of teaching, NY sports teams, video games, snowboarding, and motorcycles. He attended Boston University to get his degree in Elementary Education, got his master’s in Special Education from American International College, and is receiving his Admin Credential from LMU. He moved to L.A. in 2015 to follow his lovely girlfriend (now wife) as she pursues her career in acting. He much prefers sunny southern California to the snow and ice covered commutes in New England.
